TōST Music

The Other Side of the Tracks

TōST Music is the umbrella for my music. It stands for
“The Other Side of the Tracks”. Live music is first, followed by recordings, songwriting, anything and everything else

The Muddy Monarchs

The name changes but the idea is the same….

I’ve had the opportunity to be part of worthy bands. A few of those bands were mine - with my musical partners. They have different names but in essence, my bands share a consistent foundation: We come to play; respect the audience; be memorable; in our voice; Rock and Roll;
Just Say Yes.

This concept began with Clay and the Mudslingers in Baltimore MD.
In Venice Beach CA. we called it The Sundowners.
In the Missouri - Lake of the Ozarks and Springfield MO we had The Pawn Shop with Norman Jackson, a spin-off from Don Shipps’ Titanic Blues Band and the original TōST.
Since I’ve been in South Florida it’s been NattyBōs, Derailed, and now the Muddy Monarch

Past Highlights

A Life in Rock, Blues & the Road Between

Hi, I’m Clay Goldstein. I first picked up a harmonica during my senior year of high school in Baltimore — and I haven’t put it down since. I grew up loving rock and roll, inspired by The Grateful Dead, The Doors, and The Rolling Stones. But after seeing Bruce Springsteen live, my passion shifted from simply loving rock to being part of it.

I cut my teeth at a weekly blues jam n the Fells Point area of Baltimore, treating my three allotted songs like a full gig. Around the same time, I became a DJ at my college station, hosting
The Back Door Blues Show and spinning the music that
I wanted to learn that week.

After gaining band experience on the East Coast, I moved to
Los Angeles, where I played wherever I could including recoding sessions on recordings with Andy Summers (The Police),
Brian O’Neal (The Busboys), and Paul Rothschild (The Doors, Bonnie Raitt), as well as on numerous commercial and film soundtracks.

By 2000, I headed to the Midwest, joining Don Shipps and The Titanic Blues Band and The Pawn Shop with Reverend Norman Jackson — probably the finest blues bands I will ever play with.
I went to Finland, Czech Republic, and Austria, along with three Armed Forces Entertainment tours, performing for service members around the world.

Eventually, I settled in South Florida and became part of the region’s Blues and Rock and Roll scene, performing with Otis Cadillac and the El Dorados featuring the Sublime Seville Sisters and Kat Riggins’ Blues Revival, and now the Rockabilly Kings, playing festivals from Niagara Falls through New England and back to Florida.

Through it all, I’ve always led my own bands — from The Sundowners in Venice Beach, CA to The NattyBōs, and now
The Muddy Monarchs here in South Florida. My projects defy genre or labels, focusing instead on passion, authenticity, and the joy of live performance.

We play songs we love and songs we write — we consider every show a gift, the opportunity of a lifetime.
